It is May 2016 and this website is now officially “on the market”.
This site was originally built and then translated into French and Russian in mid 2014. I had high hopes of the riches I would make by generating leads and sending them to lawyers, but it just has not worked out to be profitable for me.
This site has generated leads. Around 40 so far. Since I want to keep track of them, it is only possible to get in contact via the form at the bottom of each page. A new owner or tennant could use a graphic ad to include an email and telephone number. I’m sure that would increase the number of leads.
Why only the form? Because in my experience, clients in every sector have very bad memories when it comes to remembering how a lead was generated. Hey, lawyers are humans too – we all have bad memories…
However, it is really difficult to track the leads generated with a law firm because the company needs to sign non-disclosures and confidentiality agreements. In addition to which, lawyers tend to be very busy, and just remembering everything under pressure must be a challenge.
Why does this site have value?
Firstly, it gets visitors. For a 3 page website, it actually generates quite a lot!
That is actually 5,601 visitors since launch. Not bad for 3 pages!
Where does the site rank?
Pretty much everywhere you can guess! One of the oddities of the way I built it is that it does not rank well in Malta. That might seem like a bad thing, but you are unlikely to find many IIP applications amongst the Maltese population, so it is no problem. Let’s take a few examples of where it does rank…

You might notice that there are quite a lot of words on the page, which helps the site to rank for lots of phrases, not just “malta citizenship”, but that is the keyword that everyone is fighting over.
What does it take to rank a website for “Malta Citizenship”?
Obviously, I bought the domain and built the website, researched the content, wrote the content, built lots of links and just kept going until I was on page one. Essentially that is why my site is on page one and most – possibly including your site – are not. I kept on going until I won.
Since there are some sites that should naturally rank well for this keyword – the actual authorities in this space – ranking at about number five is the most I could hope for. Thus, when I got to number six I stopped trying.

You reduce the risk and effort of trying to rank your own website in this space to just writing a cheque. I can alter the site so that it shows your name, the form sends messages to you and you can host it under your own name. We can even add your telephone number and email address. You will own the domain name, the content and receive all the benefits (leads).
All fees and commissions earned in the sale of passport and residence related services will be yours. Once the sale goes through, it is all yours.
All sensible offers will be considered, but please bear in mind that I have a good idea what one passport sale is worth to you, so if your offer is for something derisory like 1000 euros, I will not be accepting.
Option 2: Rental
You reduce the risk and effort of trying to rank your own website in this space to just writing a cheque. I can alter the site so that it shows your name and the form sends messages. We can even add your telephone number and email address.
All fees and commissions earned in the sale of passport and residence related services will be yours. I will be remunerated with my monthly fixed fee, nothing more.
However, I will retain ownership of the website and be responsible for the rankings. Should you fail to pay, the website is mine and I will find another company to work with.
We can make an arrangement where you pay monthly for the site. I can even think of some circumstances where I will offer a discount (if you pay for a year in advance, pay via cash / Bitcoin, etc).
Since one sale is worth tens of thousands of euros for this service, plus fees for family members, plus the real estate commissions, I see no reason why the rental price should be below 300 euros per month.
I intend to contact everyone in this space and make the same pitch to them. Therefore, if your company genuinely wants to access people searching in Google for IIP phrases in dozens of countries, this is a quick and realistic way to do that without needing to commit to being better at SEO than I am!
(There is a very good chance that I am better at SEO than the freelancer you outsource your SEO to. Exhibit A: I’m ranking my legal site above almost the entire Maltese legal sector 😉 for the most profitable phrases and have been for at least a year.)
